Termites and carpenter ants are not the same. While both can damage wood, termites consume wood as their primary food source, whereas carpenter ants excavate wood to create nests but do not eat it. Termites have straight antennae, uniform waists, and equal-length wings, whereas carpenter ants have bent antennae, narrow waists, and wings of unequal length.
